Slavoj Zizek: Biden is 'far from ideal' but 'better than Trump'

Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden.

The eccentric communist thinker, who backed Trump in 2016 and has made a career out of cutting against popular opinion, begrudgingly endorsed Biden’s candidacy, saying he is “far from ideal.”

“I think that, difficult as it is for me to say this, but now I would say, Biden better than Trump,” Zizek said. “He is far from ideal, far from ideal, but you know, now, we don’t have time to dream about this. Now, I think, again, our whole way of life is changing.”

Zizek, who has been called “the most dangerous philosopher in the West,” said the coronavirus pandemic demands a more “rational politics” and that Trump’s response has not given him hope that the president can lead the United States out of the crisis.

“Now with coronavirus, no, no Trump,” Zizek said. “The only thing that gives me some hope is that it seems to me — don’t you have this impression? — that other people about Trump in the administration, nonetheless, pursue a more rational politics, and I’m not quite sure, but up to a point, Trump is getting irrelevant, up to a point.”
