Dow Jones skyrockets amidst US penalties on Russia

(MENAFN) By Friday’s close, the Dow Jones had climbed by more than 800 points, reflecting increased financial market confidence as the US prepared to slap penalties on Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The blue-chip index jumped by 834 points, or 2.51 percent, to settle at 34,058, its highest one-day rise since late 2020. However, following significant declines during the week, it stayed flat for the rest of the week.

The S&P 500 finished at 4,384 points, accelerating by over 96 points, or 2.24 percent. It increased by 0.8 percent on a weekly basis.

The Nasdaq finished the day by gaining 221 points, or 1.64 percent, at 13,694. For the week, the tech-heavy index gained 1.1 percent.
